Mediterranean landscape, gouache on paper by Georges de Feure
Georges de Feure, born Georges Joseph van Sluijters, was a Belgian-Dutch artist born in Paris in 1868. After incomplete training at the Beaux-Arts in Amsterdam, he settled in Montmarte in 1889, where he rubbed shoulders with the most prominent artists. Starting out as a poster artist, he expanded his art into multiple media, from gouache to cabinetmaking, especially through his collaboration with Siegfrind Bing's Art Nouveau gallery.
A true virtuoso, his creativity left a lasting mark on Symbolism and Art Nouveau.
